  • Broadway Inspirational Voices in Concert | Steve French VO

Back Broadway Inspirational Voices in Concert It is my profound honor to occasionally serve as BIV's announcer. Source: SFVO Author: Steve French Publication Date: Jun 21, 2021 Click here Some of my most formative experiences as a performer occurred as a member of Broadway International Voices (BIV), the TONY Award-winning gospel choir founded by Michael McElroy . Not only is the choir made up of some of the most talented Broadway singers and musicians in New York City, but their selfless mission “to change lives through the power of music and service” makes an impact far beyond any concert stage or Grammy nomination. Although my schedule has kept me from singing with them for the last few years, it is my profound honor to occasionally serve as their announcer, as I did for their recent concert experience On an Island in the River . This event was bittersweet but exhilarating, as it marked the end of McElroy’s tenure as leader of the choir, passing the baton to Allen René Louis . These two performances at the newly opened Little Island NYC were a revelatory experience for those in attendance. If you weren’t among them, you can check out the entire concert at Broadway.com’s YouTube channel . Learn More Tags: Announcer, Broadway International Voices, BIV, Little Island NYC

  • Celebrity Spotlight: Steve French | Steve French VO

Back Celebrity Spotlight: Steve French In a recent interview with TVGrapevine , Steve opened up about the show and a special fandom that he loves. Source: TV Grapevine Author: Sammi Turano Publication Date: Mar 21, 2021 Click here Steve French has one of the most well known voices in America and possibly the world. He has done everything from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to Match Game and many other projects in between. He is to voice work what Derek Hough is to dancing. Now fans can hear him every Wednesday on his new podcast Unsolved Mysteries, which was created by the show’s original producers. Each week, he takes on an unsolved case and, much like the show, gives details, news and other information in hopes of getting answers and the case eventually solved. In a recent interview with TVGrapevine, Steve opened up about the show and a special fandom that he loves. Check out the highlights below: 1. Steve admitted that he was a bit nervous about hosting the show, saying that OG host Robert Stack was a tough act to follow. However, he was up for the job and eventually found his voice and groove. He knew he didn’t want to copy the iconic host, so he worked hard in finding his own voice, adding a great range of emotions to each episode. That was something that was very important to the producers, and led to him making the show his own. 2. Each episode will focus on one case per week. For example, one week will be a missing person, one will be about UFOs, etc. He promises that there will be something for everyone who listens to the podcast and hopes that they will enjoy each episode, even if they aren’t a fan of a particular genre on the show. Steve went on to say that he knows people love this kind of show and thinks they will be drawn in to each episode in a new, unique way. 3. Interestingly, Steve doesn’t even know what he will be covering each week until right before he records. He is given the interviews and rough cuts, but other than that, he doesn’t have a lot of lead time. However, he does end up doing research after the fact, saying that he finds each and every case fascinating in its own way. 4. The biggest thing for Steve help provide some some semblance of closure, or at least support and hope for those people who have been faced with tragedy. He takes his job very seriously and understands that these are real people looking for answers. It is not just a voiceover job for him….it is a way to help people in any way he can. 5. As of right now, there are no plans to do a full episode of case updates. However, Steve did say that if and when they get them, he and the show will certainly find a way to get the word out to the public. 6. In addition to hosting the podcast, Steve is the promo voice for The Mandalorian. He is also an avid Star Wars fan and has been watching the movies over the pandemic. So what is his favorite? While he loves them all, he has an appreciation for the latest three movies and considers The Last Jedi to be his favorite! Keep checking back for more news on Steve and Unsolved Mysteries. • Booking BOBA FETT | Steve French VO

Back Booking BOBA FETT A day in the life of a promo voice artist. Source: SFVO Author: Steve French Publication Date: Feb 9, 2022 Click here Out of gallery What does it mean to be a promo voice? In the most basic terms, the promo voice is the voice you hear at the end of spots for a given show, series, or network. The script is often a short end tag, maybe no more than a few words. You are the voice that tells the audience what the show is, and when and where they can watch it. Pretty simple, right? But it goes deeper than that. Being the promo voice means you are tasked with creating a signature vocal tone for the show, one that will stick in the listener’s memory. Whether they’re watching the promo on TV, scrolling through social media, or just have it on in the background while making dinner, that voice will help cement a show in an audience’s mind. In the case of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, I was lucky enough to have been the promo voice of the first Star Wars live-action series, THE MANDALORIAN on Disney+. Thanks to the tireless work of my promo manager Andrew Atkin at ACM Talent, I was still on the radar of Kyle Rodri (VP of Creative Advertising at The Walt Disney Studios and an old college pal) as well as Buddha Jones and BOND , the trailer houses creating the promo campaign for BOBA. But I had to audition just like everyone else! When you audition for a campaign, you don’t often get to see any footage of the show, so you can only go off any direction casting gives you. We were told this was a gangster story, with a sense of mystery to it, and they wanted a different feel than we had acheived for THE MANDALORIAN. A Season 2 promo for THE MANDALORIAN I gave casting a few different takes, but the one that stuck was a slightly lighter, more mysterious read. I imagined the VO was a character lurking in the shadows of Tatooine, a peddler of intriguing wares who was offering passers-by a sneak peek into something they wouldn’t want to miss. After a few rounds of callbacks, and slight adjustments to the read, I learned I had the job, and the fun began. VO for promos is fast-paced. The spots are created very quickly, and the VO is one of the last pieces of the puzzle to be dropped into place. When I’m working on a campaign, I know I could get a text at any moment from my manager saying, “Hop into the booth, I’ve got a script coming your way!” Sometimes I’ll record a script in the afternoon, and see it on TV that evening. My job is to be ready to go, and have my home studio in order so I can lay down whatever script they’ve sent as soon as possible. These days, home studio technology has enabled both voice actors and producers to collaborate at a much faster pace, and in addition to their trust in me as a performer, I take pride in being able to provide high-quality audio to clients who trust me to get the job done when they need it done. These seven episodes of THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT dazzled as they further expanded the Star Wars universe, and I loved how Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni consistently make their own rules, break those rules, and then make new ones. This is daring, innovative TV, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been the promo voice for their show.
